So, What is This?

This Tome holds the vast knowledge of creatures, anomalies, and all sorts of specimens varying in between. These entries are a mix of thoughts, memories, and notes physically or magically taken from its sources, as well as recollections by the Owner of this Tome.When reading these texts, most of it has been inscribed by the Owner of the Tome, manually or subconsciously. However, you may come across blocks of text highlighted in italics. These are personal notes to help structure the book itself, such as the previous ones and the one you are reading currently.

The Origins of the Tome

Very few are found within this world with a truly creative spark. With this spark, they may be born as a Changeling; mischievous shapeshifting creatures that live many lives and adopt a plethora of personas.However, while some may naturally recognize this themselves upon creation, others may need a little...push.Enter stage left, the voice of Luck herself.Despite sharing the name of the same phenomena, not much is truly shared or known about her. Hell, Luck isn't even her real name; a moniker given by yours truly as to not have to constantly refer to her as "the lady in my head".
All that is known about her is that she is beyond this plane, yet can only watch through eternal stewards and the occasional "dream", her words.And so, this book serves as her eyes. One of her many looking glasses to watch the world unfurl before her watchful gaze. In turn, she awoke the creative spark in me and I became the patron who's probably watching over you now. And I'll be around for as long as reality stands, so long as I live the life she could never.

How to Navigate

Navigating this book is a simple feat, something I'm sure you've figured out well enough by now using your ever so clever deduction skills.If not, it's quite alright. We all need a little help sometimes, no matter how simple. Just use the Arrows below each page to seek through, and the Menu button to return to the list.Beyond the basics, there are some Key terms, values, and such that will come up when viewing each contract. This part is to learn more about those specific values, as to better understand what they mean and denote when delving into the lives of these lovely souls.

The Basics

As per the contracts and bargains upheld, one's Tale is told and immortalized within these pages, typically down to the most intimate of details.Now, I could write down the exact numbers for their physical aptitude, their IQ, the exact count of Aether particles which plague their system, and so on. But that's no fun, now is it?So, instead, there's a simplified and much more digestible way to absorb it all, in the form of a few charts and indicators.

As mentioned before, it is too much of a bore to write down exact measurements. Now, this one was quite the catch. The tamer Avayi typically avoid all kinds of magic, and even the ones who teeter on the line between breaking and clinging onto their mind still avoid the more dubious bargains and pacts. Calem, however, there was an air about him that was....aged. At least, more aged than the whiskey he'd been shooting back in the tavern.Though it took some convincing, after sharing a few drinks I was able to get this sweet bird to sing his tune.

Early Life

Avayi do not come gently into the world. After hatching, Calem would succumb to the same madness much like all other hatchlings did upon birth, and when his mother and father eventually lulled him into an almost sedated state, he'd be one of the few remaining kin that outlasted their siblings.From his tumultuous rise, Calem's childhood would be fairly tame. Like all Avayi children, he was given a pendant which would help siphon off the excess Aether that weighed upon him, allowing for a clear mind for a majority of his lifetime. He would eventually forgo this charm to learn more about his heritage when the time came, and eventually parted ways with his family in search of inner peace with his soul.

Adventures in Aetherlyn

As Calem traveled throughout Aetherlyn, he would pick up the odd job here and there to help fund his hermit lifestyle, all while seeking out Avayi throughout the lands in search of their solutions to fully understanding his condition. This eventually led to the drifter becoming a sort of folk hero of sorts; a wind that lazily blew through town and took the lesser filth out with him. There was the occasional mess or sticky situation he'd find himself in, though his nature allows him to leave without drawing attention or stoking the flames.Along the way, Calem eventually found ways to quell the chaotic nature of his soul through unique herbal extracts used through his smoking pipe, keeping his mind at ease and his body relaxed; a method he'd learn from his mentorship near the northern mountains along the border of Aetherlyn. It was a habit he'd share with Ryo when they'd eventually meet, and served as the bonding moment that would lead to the trio's party forming.Ryo and Calem would meet alongside Whistle after a rowdy barfight led to the trio moving from drinking buddies to unlikely allies. After inevitably finding themselves kicked out and sent to the streets, they would band together with the kobold to find shelter for the evening, and thus would kick off their exploits as the mercenaries for hire.
